RootsCampLA is Louisiana’s annual progressive organizers' retreat. It is an opportunity for activists across the state to come together and reflect on successes and failures, as well as train and plan for future endeavors. RootsCamp is an incubator for fresh ideas, lively discussion and, most importantly, action-driven learning among very diverse groups of passionate progressive activists.
RootsCamp is a dynamic participant-led event. That means you offer your expertise in knowledge and skills, you contribute to “The Wall” of ideas, and together we complete the agenda. You may come to learn, make new friends of like minds, or build activist relationships. Whatever your niche, your participation and contributions help determine how we move forward in Louisiana.

Our Keynote Speaker: Frank Curiel
Our keynote speaker is non-other than life-long union organizer Frank Curiel, close friend of the late great Cesar Chavez. He'll be speaking to the need for grassroots solidarity across the broad spectrum of our diverse, progressive issues in Louisiana. He's lived what he preaches and has had many successes, failures, heart aches and joyous victories. He will present, and then there will be a question and answer period. He has a wealth of knowledge that even the most seasoned community leader can learn from. RootsCamp is a time for opportunities like this one.

Frank Curiel has been a labor and community organizer for 40 years. He is currently Organizing Coordinator for the Southeast Region covering 7 states for the Laborers’ International Union of North America. He additionally serves as Vice President of Mississippi Immigrant Rights Alliance.
Frank was body guard and close friend of Cesar Chavez. He worked with United Farm Workers to organize boycott activity in San Diego, Los Angeles, Pacific Northwest, Florida, and served as Regional Manager for Canada. He also worked as a Representative for the Hotel Employees Restaurant Employees International Union in California and in Ontario, Canada.
Frank has organized farm workers, construction workers, poultry workers, mushroom workers, hotel, and restaurant workers, county and city workers, and has fought for immigrant rights in every campaign.
